Brief description of the houses
La Riverie is designed to help semi or retired people live in France with ease. Our strategy is to take away the hassle of owning your own home and managing bills and repairs and upkeep. Also the language barrier need not be a problem.
We have people from all over the world staying in the retirement village and we have helped them make the journey to a wonderful life. Normandy and the Cherbourg peninsula is a wonderful place with roving hills and lots of rivers, streams and forests. Driving in France in like driving 40 years ago with little of no traffic along the way.
Shopping is not a rush and locals will stand and chat with check out staff. In Normandy shops still close in the afternoon and never open on a Sunday, except for the boulongerie’s.
We created the village atmosphere to allow people to have a sense of a community and belonging but without people living in each other’s pockets. Isolation doesn't suite everyone.
All houses have their own gardens and we often stock these twice a year with new plants. La Riverie is 2 klm from Hambye, 5 klm from Gavray and 15klm from Granville. We are 12 minutes from the beaches at Brehal.
This area is famous for its fish markets and restaurants. Each town holds market on different days, and you will find not only fresh fish, so fresh its still moves, but an array of local farm produce.
La Riverie Retirement Hamlet dates back to 1780 and sits on the outskirts of the famous Hambye village. Famous for the Abbaye de Hambye [https://www.manche.fr/patrimoine/abbaye-hambye-N.aspx#.UozOPrW9j4w
in which during the second world war the local Germans rounded up men and boys from the local area and shot them in the grounds of the abbey in retaliation for the resistance carrying out a successful mission against German troops.
La Riverie is a sunny and quiet hamlet with a mixture of rendered and stone buildings. The farm was a dairy farm up until 15 years ago.
The complex has been divided into discrete houses ranging from single bedrooms to two bedroomed houses. Each different in character and all playing their part in the hamlet.
Riverie is ideal for people who love the countryside but also love the sea. The peace and tranquillity of Riverie is excellent and the empty beaches is wonderful to see.
Riverie is perfectly placed to visit lots of attractions such as Mont Saint Michel which is 35 mins away. The Normandy beaches and Bayeau are 40 minutes away.
Our properties are part furnished with internet and freeview TV. They are fully renovated and insulated. Each house has a huge log burners to make the place toasty warm. Logs are cheap and delivered to your door. we have zero noise, light and smell pollution and the crime rate is practically none existent.

[ The Chicken House is a two bedroomed house which once housed the son of the farmer and contained a hidden door and fireplace. Often in France, in Normandy families lived on the first floor and housed their cattle in the rooms below. This helped with keeping the place warm eco central heating. The house has open living space down stairs with lounge with large log burner. kitchen diner with full fitted kitchen. 2 bedrooms, one double and one single and bathroom with shower, toilet and basin. The cottage is very airy with lots of windows and light. The double patio door entrance overlooks the garden courtyard and pond. The house has gardens front back and side and there is private parking. The accommodation is 75 sq meters
where the main farmer lived and originally the building was all on one level but 75 years ago the roof was replaced, and the walls increased by 1 meter which gave the place a more impressions and prestigious feel. The beautiful French windows in the bedrooms are wonderful and there is nothing nicer than to lay in bed on a morning and open the window and smell the beautiful fresh Normandy air. The accommodation consists of kitchen-diner with fully fitted kitchen, downstairs hallway, toilet and cloakroom. Lounge with windows overlooking the gardens, There is a large log burner for heating. Upstairs there are two large double bedrooms with french windows opening onto the courtyard and gardens. A spacious bathroom with shower and bath.. Heating is oil filled electric radiators. There is a patio area at the back of the property with large well stocked garden and trees. There are raised border gardens at the front of the property. The accommodation is 110 sq meters There is private parking.
Here was kept the farmers horse for ploughing the fields. The Cheval is a two bedroomed house with large oak beams and a cosy atmosphere. The accommodation has a gardens front, side and rear. All living space is on one floor ideal for people who do not like stair. Inside the property there is a large fully fitted kitchen and dining area. From the main kitchen there is a spacious bathroom with bath and shower. A double bedroom with wardrobe. Second single bedroom. Lounge with French windows overlooking courtyard fitted with large log burner. Accommodation is 85sq meters. There is private parking.
Grange en pierre
built in 1822 from local stone. The walls are 1 meter thick and contain hidden secrets of life on the farm. This is a two bedroomed house all on one level with lovely views across open fields. There are easy to maintain gardens front and rear. The accommodation comprises of kitchen dining with fully fitted kitchen. Bathroom with shower. Lounge with French windows overlooking the courtyard and rear gardens with log burner. There are two double bedrooms with garden and courtyard views. Private parking.
The Cow shed and dairy is a spacious ground floor two bedroomed bungalow with open aspect. There are large windows at the front overlooking the courtyard and patio french windows at the rear overlooking open fields. There is a large spacious lounge with log burner. French windows leading onto a patio area and garden. There are two double bedrooms and a spacious bathroom. All with oil filled electric radiators. The kitchen diner is the old dairy with raised floor and windows all round. The kitchen is fully fitted. All the houses have been renovated, rewired, replumbed and decorated to a good standard. Each house has double glazed windows and doors.
The total site is 10 acres of countryside and only 12 minutes from the beach.
